Lemonade Diet-Is It Right For You

The lemonade diet has become quite a big deal recently. It boast lots of devoted users who swear by its effectiveness. But it also has its share of detractors. What exactly is the lemonade diet? What if any are the dangers in trying it? Is it a fad system that only a few can really obtain results? Is it just to hard to do? These are some of the questions that I got from people who are looking at the lemonade diet as a way to drop the pounds and feel better in their overall health. I must also say I nor this site are advocating this or any other diet/weight loss method as being safe, or allowing the stated claims of the diet plan to be taken as fact. They are being presented as an examination into systems and methods that are currently being tried and used by the masses. The reader should use the information presented here and in other places and decide for themselves.  Ok, let’s get at it then.

What is The Lemonade Diet

The Lemonade Diet also goes by the monikers  “Master Cleanse and The Maple Syrup Diet”.  It was  developed over 50 years ago by a gentleman named Stanley Burroughs (photo on left) as a detoxification and fasting program. However it should be noted that the late Mr Burroughs was a proponent of quite a few “unorthodox” medical treatments some of which he wrote about in a book called  Healing for the Age of Enlightenment. His unusual practices and methods got him into a bit of trouble for practicing medicine without a licence and one bad case of second-degree murder (which was overturned) after the death of one of his private pts. I must point out that the lemonade diet was only a part of the treatment that was given the pt and weight loss was not the thing the pt was being treated for.

The master cleanse was originally intended to help rid the body of toxins and internal wastes that build up over time in our bodies due to “improper diet, lack of or no exercise, and negative mental attitude” and only in the past few years has it been trumpeted as a weight loss method with  Beyoncé (20 lbs lost) being one of the high-profile people who swear they used and lost weight doing the lemonade diet. So basically the lemonade diet is a cleaning out system using a lemonade/maple syrup concoction along with other cleansing agents such as green teas, cayenne pepper, and filtered or disstilled water. And eating nothing else for 7 days. A real test for anyone to do I would think. There is no exercise that I could find to go along with this diet, but after a few days of no food I really don’t think your gonna want to exercise.

Doing The Diet, What You Need

Possibly the most successful of any diet of its type, and made famous by celebrities such as Beyonce Knowles, Robin Quivers, and Isaac Hayes. The diet was originally developed by Stanley Burroughs in 1941, and was first used to treat stomach ulcers.  As a disease preventative tool, and a contributor to maintaining overall good health, The Master Cleanse is designed to facilitate dietary change. Detoxing then, is the easiest way to regain your vitality and to give your digestive organs a well deserved rest, allowing your body to repair itself and clean out. Please Consult With Your Medical Practitioner before undergoing this, The Master Cleanse or any other diet.

To do the lemonade diet you are going to need to get some every day items to make up your concoctions. You will need:

  1. Fresh lemons
  2. Grade B organic maple syrup
  3. Cayenne pepper
  4. Filtered or distilled water
  5. Green tea (optional) used by some variations of the diet
  6. Organic sea salt (optional) used by some variations of the diet

The recipe for your concoction is :

  • 2 tablespoons fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons grade-B organic maple syrup
  • 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 10 ounces filtered water

The diet plan consists of you drinking  6 or more servings every day of the lemonade drink concoction. Optionals to consider using are a “salt water flush” of 2 teaspoons salt mixed in a quart of water in the morning, and an herbal laxative (green) tea at night. Some folks will not need the salt water flush or the night time tea. That is all there is to it. You eat nothing solid for 7-14 days and only drink your lemonade drink when you feel hungry and to maintain hydration. At the end of your fasting, you must start back on solid foods gradually and eat foods that are not real heavy right away. Start off with soups and fruits and work up to more substantial meals.

Does It Work

This is not an easy yes or no question. There are a whole lot of factors to take into consideration when doing any diet such as your weight at the start, how your body functions, your overall health, and even your lifestyle. It seems obvious to me that most of the weight that will come off is water weight. Also there may be a loss of muscle mass as well. But do you really want to go in that direction? You will no doubt feel “sick” as your body doesn’t get the normal caloric intake its used to. The cure in some cases may actually be worse than the disease. Bottom line for me is that ” if ”  you  are able to stay on the lemonade diet for the allotted time you will drop some weight. But you may gain it all back as soon as you have begun to eat like a normal person again.  I found these videos to get some results from people who were doing the lemade diet. Take a look below.
