I don’t believe in fad diets because they can only ever bring short-term results. I believe that for real change to occur we have to make life changes this should mean that any weight loss is permanent. Making changes to our lifestyle will therefore mean that there is no need to take so called ‘days off’. The idea behind ‘days off’ is that we are depriving ourselves of something, but as a reward we are allowing ourselves to have that thing we desire. But by doing this, you are just strengthening your assumption that you have to punish yourself in order to lose weight and this is something that will be almost impossible to maintain. But changing your lifestyle is a preferable idea because it is not about being punished but rather adopting changes which are better for you.


I’m not saying here that we shouldn’t reward ourselves for reaching our weight loss goals we most certainly should. But in my opinion a reward should not be something that we have been trying to stop doing, ie it is not a good idea to reward yourself for not eating chocolate by having a chocolate bar. Instead you could take a trip out to the shops and buy yourself some new clothes to suit your new body – this would not be bad for your health and will still make you feel better.
